Where Is the Land Rover Defender Built?

Production of the classic Defender at Solihull ended in 2016, marking the close of a historic chapter for Land Rover.

Where the New Defender Is Made Today

The all-new Defender, reintroduced in 2020, is not built in the UK. Instead, modern Defender models are manufactured in Slovakia, at Nitra Plant, a state-of-the-art facility operated by Jaguar Land Rover.

This factory was purpose-built to support Land Rover's latest aluminum-intensive vehicle platforms. It features advanced robotics, precision assembly processes, and sustainability-focused production methods-ensuring the new Defender meets modern expectations for safety, refinement, and quality while retaining its off-road credentials.

Why the Move from the UK?

The shift from Solihull to Slovakia was driven by several factors:
