OMVIC ALL-IN-PRICING
Buying a vehicle whether it’s brand-new or a pre-owned can be challenging because of the time, energy, commitment and financial resources it requires. So to give you peace of mind, Ontario made all-in pricing advertising the law for dealerships. This means that OMVIC-registered dealers (Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council) have to include all fees and taxes in their advertised prices. This way, there are no hidden fees. OMVIC has been created to look after you and protect your rights as a buyer. At Land Rover Waterloo, transparency is one of our core values and we fully support this move by OMVIC.
What Fees Are Included in All-in Pricing?
OMVIC all-in pricing demands that the price that is advertised for a vehicle include all fees and charges the dealer is planning to collect. So before diving into the specifics of what fees are included in the all-in pricing method, let’s first start by defining what is considered an advertisement. The latter is defined as anything that encourages you to buy a product including newspapers, radio announcement, page on a website, social media post and signs. According to OMVIC, fees that must be included in all-in pricing include freight, administration fees, OMVIC fee, government taxes, warranties and more. For a complete list of fees, please check the OMVIC website.
What Are Some Exceptions to All-in Price Advertising?
OMVIC has made some room for a few exceptions to the all-in price advertising rule. First of all, it is important to note that vehicle manufacturers are not bound to all-in price advertising because they are not regulated by OMVIC. Secondly, vehicles advertised as “unfit” will not include the cost for a safety certification in their price. However, the dealership has to include a visible and clear disclosure statement. If the dealer would like to offer the possibility to certify the vehicle, they need to specify the cost. The third exception to all-in pricing are vehicles that are advertised “as is”. Advertisements for these vehicles also need to include a prominent disclosure statement. Contact our dealership for more questions on all-in price advertisement.
